Giselle, a peasant girl, has fallen in love with Count Albrecht, who has told her he is a villager named Loys. Her discovery of his true identity has devastating consequences.
Giselle died of a broken heart. Distraught, Albrecht wanders the forests - and discovers that Giselle has become one of the Wilis, shades of young women who died before their wedding day. The Wilis dance all men that come across their path to death; but Giselle intercedes on Albrecht’s behalf. Her forgiveness saves Albrecht and releases her from the Wilis, so that she may finally rest in peace.

The Ballet Company of Teatro alla Scala is the resident classical ballet company at La Scala in Milan, Italy. One of the oldest and most renowned ballet companies in the world, the company predates the theatre, but was officially founded at the inauguration of La Scala in 1778. Many leading dancers have performed with the company, including Mara Galeazzi, Alessandra Ferri, Roberto Bolle and Carla Fracci.
Recent years have seen the La Scala Ballet expand its visibility at home and abroad, with debut performances at the Paris Opera, Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre, the Mariinsky (Kirov) Theatre, and in the USA, Germany, Turkey, Brazil, Spain, Mexico and China etc. Now the company has étoiles Svetlana Zakharova, Roberto Bolle, Massimo Murru, guest artists Maria Eichwald, Polina Semionova, Alina Somova, Federico Bonelli, Leonid Sarafanov, principals Nicoletta Manni, Marta Romagna, Claudio Coviello, Alessandro Grillo, Antonino Sutera, Mick Zeni, newly appointed soloists and the many Corps de Ballet members.
