爱让人疯狂,时而坠入地狱,时而置身天堂。西班牙的塞维利亚,一朵玫瑰正肆意地绽放:卡门,美艳而不驯的卡门;她款款而来,享受着男子的膜拜;她一颦一笑,牵动着世人的目光。唯有耿直的士兵唐•何塞,对她的存在无动于衷。可是命运偏偏开了个残酷的玩笑,卡门招摇着闯进了何塞的生命,从此一切都变了样。被爱情冲昏头脑的何塞,愿意为卡门放弃本来的幸福,而带刺的玫瑰,注定要刺伤每一个接近她的心……


梅里美的原著《卡门》充其量是一部“著名”的短篇小说,而比才的《卡门》则是一部“伟大”的歌剧。德国哲学家尼采曾连续观赏《卡门》二十遍之多,誉其为“地中海的太阳”;俄国作曲家柴可夫斯基在《卡门》最后一幕时,常无法抑制地流下泪水;德国作曲家勃拉姆斯曾说:“如果比才还在世,我会向他拥吻致意”。遗憾的是,《卡门》的首演反响非常冷淡,37岁的比才郁郁而终,在临行前未能亲眼目睹《卡门》的辉煌,而几乎就在比才死去的同时,歌剧《卡门》的命运才出现转机。到今天,《卡门》已是世界上被上演次数最多的歌剧之一,剧中多首歌曲,如“哈巴涅拉舞曲”“斗牛士之歌”和“《卡门》序曲”,已成为世界各大乐团演出的保留曲目。


本次广州大剧院2014年度歌剧《卡门》,将由广州大剧院歌剧总监、指挥大师丹尼尔•欧伦执棒,意大利歌剧女神安冬娜琪领衔主演,由国际名导演赞贝罗领导的英国科文特花园皇家歌剧院传奇班底打造传奇故事,音乐之花再次激情绽放!

乔治•比才 Georges Bizet(1838-1875)


与19世纪的许多歌剧作曲家一样,比才也是凭借一部作品赢得了不朽的声望。他在世时未能享有盛名,死后的荣光却足以让许多音乐家黯然失色。在威尔第和瓦格纳引领歌剧作品潮流的年代,比才是极少数才华横溢且有独特个性的作曲家之一,他所创作的《卡门》将法国歌剧推向了一个全新的境界,尼采、圣桑和德彪西等人都给予该剧很高的评价。比才对世界歌剧的发展所产生的巨大影响不容忽视:在法国有马内斯继续比才未竟的事业;俄国的柴可夫斯基的一些作品中也显示出他的遗风;而受比才的影响最大的是意大利,《卡门》被誉为是最早的真是主义歌剧,虽然它比意大利的真实主义运动早了二十多年。

弗朗西斯卡•赞贝罗

Francesca Zambello

赞贝罗,美国著名戏剧导演,意大利后裔,出生在美国。她早年居住在欧洲,通晓英、法、意、德、俄五国语言,青年时曾游学莫斯科大学,后为著名歌剧导演大师波聂勒担任助理导演。1984年至1991年,赞贝罗担任美国“天际线歌剧院”艺术总监。90年代中期以来,她成为世界各大歌剧院争相邀请的当红导演。她的作品遍布美国大都会歌剧院、肯尼迪艺术中心、华盛顿国家歌剧院、莫斯科大剧院、英国皇家歌剧院和斯卡拉歌剧院等。特别是2006年由她为英皇执导的《卡门》,一经推出就以其深具“真实主义”风格的舞台表现获得了极大成功,掀起了顶级歌剧院《卡门》的改版风潮。她的主要作品包括在纽约大都会歌剧院上演的《拉美莫尔的露契亚》、《美国悲剧》、《特洛伊人》;英国皇家歌剧院上演的《唐•璜》、《黑桃皇后》、《卡门》;巴黎歌剧院上演的《图兰朵》、《莎乐美》、《战争与和平》、《游吟诗人》;莫斯科大剧院上演的《火天使》;巴伐利亚国家歌剧院上演的《奥赛罗》、《比利•巴德》等。

邓肯•麦克法兰导演在年纪尚轻时就已开始频繁接触表演艺术。他曾就读于伯克利音乐学院、马德拉舞蹈与表演艺术中心及布鲁塞尔皇家音乐学院。不拘一格的他同时拥有舞蹈、戏剧、音乐、计算机科学、心理学和哲学等学位,作为一位职业生涯广阔的演出执行者,他曾为世界各地多家剧院的演出担任导演与编舞。目前,他在英国皇家歌剧院、格林德波恩歌剧音乐节、米兰斯卡拉剧院、中国国家大剧院和里昂歌剧院等多家国际知名剧院担任导演、复排导演、编舞和助理导演的工作。

世界著名男高音罗伯托•阿罗尼卡1969年出生于意大利罗马,是意大利美声大师贝尔冈齐大师的高徒。这位优秀的歌唱家正值其歌剧生涯的黄金年龄,多次受邀于纽约大都会剧院、英国皇家歌剧院、米兰斯卡拉大剧院、维也纳国家歌剧院等国际知名剧院献艺,也曾与洛林•马泽尔、谢米扬•比契科夫、詹姆斯•康伦等著名指挥合作。如今他的演出合同往往要提前两年来敲定。很多中国观众认识他是源于2005年由马泽尔指挥的威尼斯凤凰歌剧院新年音乐会,音乐会中,阿罗尼卡强大的演唱实力令人啧啧称奇。

古斯塔沃•波塔,来自阿根廷的男高音,是布宜诺斯艾利斯及意大利各大歌剧院的常驻艺术家,这位演出经验丰富的男高音歌唱家也是现今世界各大歌剧舞台上的常客。在波塔近二十年的演出生涯中,所涉猎的作品众多,曾多次受邀出演《卡门》、《阿依达》、《游吟诗人》、《托斯卡》和《蝴蝶夫人》等大部头作品。尤其是《卡门》中的唐•何塞一角,已成为他常年巡演于世界舞台的代表作品,丹尼尔•欧伦和祖宾•梅塔两位指挥大师都曾为他所主演的《卡门》执棒。

克莱迪奥•斯古拉自1997年开始了他的演唱生涯,师从女高音玛利亚•马佐塔,在数次国际歌剧大赛上均拔头筹。2004年他初次在西班牙登台出演歌剧《卡门》中斗牛士埃斯卡米洛一角,并在22个不同的城市巡演,从此他所塑造的“高酷帅”斗牛士形象深入人心,也成为了他最经典的角色之一。他曾与指挥大师安东尼奥•帕帕诺在英国皇家歌剧院合作上演普契尼歌剧《西部女郎》,也曾在普拉西多•多明戈的执棒下演出《阿依达》。他的代表作还包括《蝴蝶夫人》、《游吟诗人》、《麦克白》、《茶花女》、《托斯卡》等。

自1987年以歌剧《维特》中阿尔伯特一角出道后,普雷维亚蒂一直是意大利及欧洲各主要歌剧院的常客。他曾饰演过多个歌剧经典角色,包括《艺术家生涯》的画家马切洛和音乐家绍纳、《唐•乔望尼》的唐•乔望尼、《费加罗的婚礼》的费加罗、《蝴蝶夫人》的夏普勒斯、《罗密欧与朱丽叶》的卡普莱伯爵等。曾参演广州大剧院2013年度歌剧《图兰朵》,成功饰演大臣平一角。

Co- presented with the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden in London, Guangzhou Opera House is going to present you the marvelous production of Carmen, directed by Francesca Zambello. The beautiful gypsy Carmen warns any man who loves her to beware. But she does not anticipate the furious passion that she will unleash when she seduces Don José, a corporal with the army in Seville. Francesca Zambello’s production, with warm terracotta-painted sets and traditional Spanish costumes by Tanya McCallin, brings 19th century Seville to life in all its bustle, heat and excitement.

Daniel Oren, who is gifted with a natural and precocious talent, officially developed his particular interest in opera with the help of the great Leonard Bernstein. In 1975, he won the “Herbert von Karajan” prestigious competition, reserved for young orchestra conductors. In recent years, the Israeli Maestro has continued to successfully conduct in the most influential European and American Theatres, among which the Metropolitan Opera in New York, The Opera House in Covent Garden London, the Staatsoper in Vienna, the Opéra Bastille in Paris where he achieved unprecedented success while working with Leo Nucci, Roberto Alagna and Angela Gheorghiu.

Francesca Zambello

An American who grew up in Europe, she speaks French, Italian, German, and Russian. Francesca Zambello most recently developed and directed the world premiere of Christopher Theofanidis' Heart of a Soldier for the San Francisco Opera, where she served as Artistic Advisor from 2006-2011. Other recent opera projects have included the first international production of Carmen to ever be presented at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing, Carmen and Don Giovanni at the Royal Opera House, Boris Godunov, War and Peace, Billy Budd and William Tell at the Paris Opera, and The Ring for the San Francisco Opera.


Revival Director

Duncan Macfarland

Introduced to the performing arts at a very young age, he studied at the University of California at Berkeley, MUDRA dance and performance arts centre, Belgium, and the Royal Conservatory of Music, Brussels, and holds degrees in Dance/Theatre/Music, Computer Science, Psychology and Philosophy. Following an extensive career as a performer, he has directed and choreographed many works for dance, theatre and opera companies throughout the world. In opera, he has worked as a director, revival director, choreographer and associate director fo r The Royal Opera, Glyndebourne, La Scala, Milan, China’s National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing and Opéra de Lyon, among others. Plans include new productions and revivals for The Royal Opera and the NCPA Beijing.

Anna Caterina Antonacci as Carmen (6/27, 29)

Anna Caterina Antonacci is widely acknowledged as a major artist, and her extraordinary vocal timbre and great acting skills have enabled her to perform a vast and varied repertoire in the world's most important theatres. She has scored notable personal success as Cassandre in Les Troyens with Sir John Eliot Gardiner at the Théâtre du Châtelet Paris, Incoronazione di Poppea at the Théâtre des Champs - Elysées, as well as the title role in Medea in Toulouse. Her debut in a new production of Carmen at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden conducted by Antonio Pappano was a huge triumph. Anna Caterina Antonacci is one of those artists who must be experienced live. She must be seen on stage. A woman of strong charisma and stunning beauty, she is an amazingly talented actress.

Born in Civitavecchia, Rome, in 1969, Roberto Aronica studied with Carlo Bergonzi and completed his instruction at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena. Since his professional debut as the Duke in Rigoletto at Teatro Municipal in Santiago de Chile, he has been guest at the most renowned opera houses on international scale, Teatro alla Scala, Metropolitan Opera of New York, Royal Opera House of London, Teatro dell’Opera of Rome, Wiener Staatsoper, Zurich Opernhaus. Just recently, in 2012 he had a great personal success with his debut in the title role of Verdi’s Stiffelio at Teatro Regio in Parma, as well as with his debut as ‘Don José’ in Carmenat the Macerata Opera Festival. Tenor

Gustavo Porta as Don José (6/28)

Gustavo Porta was born in Carrilobo (Argentina). In 1999 he moved to Italy, where soon aftger he made his debut in Carmen. His international career was launched in 2001. Soon thereafter and in subsequent years he did a long series of debuts in many Italian and International Theatres, in a repertory ranging from Verdi titles as Ilterovatore, Aida,Un Balloin Maschera, to Puccini’s Tosca, Madame Butterfly, to Bellini’s Norma. Between 2010 and 2011 he made a great debut in the difficult role of‚ Faust‘ in Boito’s Mefistofele at the Oper Frankfurt, as well as ‚Luigi‘ in Iltabarro in Duesseldorf, was‚ Don José‘ in Carmen in Tel Aviv (conductor Zubin Mehta), sang with success ‚Manrico‘ in Il Trovatore in Palermo,  followed by his debut as‚ Canio‘ in I Pagliacci in Tel Aviv.


Soprano

Elena Mosuc as Micaëla (6/27, 29)

Elena Mosuc, born in Iasi (Romania), was educated at the "George Enescu" – Conservatory in Iasi. She won several international competitions and received many prestigious prizes; in 2005, the Romanian president bestowed upon her the title “Officer of the Arts”; this is the highest honour which can be awarded to a musician in that country. Guest star appearances take her continuously to all the important opera houses in Europe (among others to Munich, Dresden, Hamburg, Berlin, Vienna, Paris, London, Rome, Venice) and also to Japan and China. She has worked with many of the greatest conductors and stage directors. Absolute highlights were her triumphant debuts as Violetta Valéry at the TeatroallaScala in Milan under the baton of Maestro LorinMaazel. Among her next engagements it must be noticed La Traviata in Bari and Barcelona,Lucia Di Lammermoor in Milan, Don Giovanni in Berlin,Lucrezia Borgia in Barcelona.


Soprano

Rosa Feola as Micaëla(6/28)

Rosa Feola, a rising Italian soprano, came to international attention when she won Second Prize, The Audience Prize and the Zarzuela Prize at the 2010 Plácido Domingo World Opera Competition. After graduating from the Conservatory in Rome, studying with M° Mara Naddei, in 2008 she attended masterclasses at the Opera Studio at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, under the direction of Renata Scotto, Anna Vandi and Cesare Scarton. The Financial Times writes: “But the key to Feola’s artistic personality is not just her vocal prowess: what counts is that she never gives less than a performance.”


Baritone

Claudio Sgura as Escamillo

He startedhissingingstudies in 1997 in Lecce under the guidance of the Soprano Maria Mazzotta. In the 2005 he wasawarded the first priceat the International Opera Competition of Viterbo while in the 2006 the secondpriceat the International Competition “Voci Verdiane” in Busseto. In 2001 he debuted on the opera stage in La Traviata at the Paisiello theatre of Lecce, and in 2004 he sangasEscamillo in Carmen in Spain, performing in 22 differentcities. In September 2008, he debutedasJach Rance in La Fanciulla Del West at the Royal Opera House of London under Maestro Antonio Pappano’sconduction. He recentlysang in Aida conducted by Placido Domingo in Tokyo.


Soprano

Stefanna Kybalova as Frasquita

Stefanna Kybalova, Italian soprano of Chech and Bulgarian origin, in 2011 won the FIRST PRIZE ABSOLUTE to the prestigious competition for Verdi’s Voices in Busseto (Parma - Italy), chaired by José Carreras. She began her career prudently with the roles of the light lyric repertoire, as Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto, and even with some roles secondary but larger contexts such as Frasquita in Carmenat the Arena of Verona in the seasons 2008 and 2009 conducted and directed by Mr. Oren. She worked with great conductors and directors like Seji Osawa, Marcello Rota, Daniel Oren and also Zeffirelli, Carsen, Giacchieri.


Mezzo-Soprano

Francesca Franci as Mercédès

She debuted in 1985 at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona and sang for the major Italian opera houses and also in Japan, Monaco, Germany, Paris and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, requested by famous conductors such as Myung Whun Chung, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Seiji Ozawa and so on. Guest for many seasons at La Scala in Milan and for the Arena di Verona Festival, she sang in Guglielmo Tell, Oberon, Il Dama Di Picche, Madama Butterfly, Nabucco, and La Traviata.


Baritone

Fabio Previati asDancaïre

Born in Venice, Fabio Previati has established a brilliant career. In 1987 he made his debut as Albert in Werther under the baton of Daniele Gatti. He performs regularly on major Italian and European opera houses with a repertory including La Bohème (Marcello and Schaunard), Don Giovanni (Don Giovanni), Le Nozze di Figaro (Figaro), Madama Butterfly (Sharpless), Roméo et Juliette (Capulet), etc. In June 2013, he performed Ping in the Guangzhou Opera House Grand Opera Production Turandot.


Tenor

Francesco Pittari as Rememdado

In 2006, Francesco Pittari made his debut in Verdi’s Macbeth and since then he had taken part in numerous operatic production among which are Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci, Puccini’s Manon Lescaut, Prokofiev’s L’amour des Trois Oranges and Verdi’s La Forza del Destino. He has played in the major Italian theaters including the Arena di Verona, the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, and Verdi Auditorium of Milan. In June 2013, he performed in the Guangzhou Opera House Grand Opera Production Turandot and La Traviata.


Bass

Carlo Striuli as Zuniga

Carlo Striuli was chosen by Luciano Pavarotti, following the Pavarotti ‘Voice Competition’ in Philadelphia, to sing alongside him in La Bohème, both in the Teatro dell’Opera in Genoa and the Tour in Peking in 1986. He has performed in: Tel-Aviv, the Arena in Cesarea, in Aida, Nabucco, Simon Boccanegra, La Bohème and Manon Lescaut. His opera appearances in Guangzhou Opera House include Tosca (2011) as Cesare Angelotti, Madama Butterfly (2012) as Sharpless, Turandot (2013) as Timur and La Traviata (2013) as Dottore Grenvil.


Bass

Marco Camastra as Moralès

The winner of many international vocal competitions, Marco Camastra, performed at the major opera houses in Italy, as atLa Scala di Milano, Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Genova’s Carlo Felice and the Arena di Verona. The artist has also been a guest at important international stages, among others Vienna, Tokyo, Rotterdam, Seoul and Monte Carlo. In 2009 he drew attention for his portrayal of ‘Dancairo’ in Carmenat the Arena di Verona.


Chorus

The Opera Chorus of Verdi Theatre in Salerno, Italy

The Opera Chorus of Verdi Theatre in Salerno is founded in 1997. Its huge repertoire covers four centuries of operas, operettas, oratorios and sacred works. The choir is mainly formed by young people from Salerno and Campania, and in most cases with a background at the Giuseppe Martucci Music Conservatory of Salerno. Today the choir is directed by the choirmaster Luigi Petrozziello and is a fixed presence in productions such as: Messa da Requiem by Verdi, La Traviata, Nabucco, Cavalleria Rusticana, Tosca, Norma, La Bohème, Carmen, Ninth Symphony by Beethoven. Their performance in the Guangzhou Opera House Grand Opera Production La Traviata in 2013 was warmly applauded by musicians, news media and the audience.


Guangzhou Opera House Children’s Chorus

As the first children’s chorus directly under the theatre in China, Guangzhou Opera House Children’s Chorus is comprised of outstanding juveniles skilled in choral singing, and operates at a professional standard.
