Brief Introduction to the Performance “Le Corsaire”
A sudden storm attack happened on Aegean Sea. A group of pirates who do not bend over Turkey’s occupation, they struggled and fight with the crazy storm until the pirate boat turned over and it was engulfed by ocean tide.
Act I Scene I
The Chief of pirates---Conrad with his friend Ali and Birbanto struggle to disembark, and faint on the beach…..
Storm ceased, Medora, Gulnara and other fishing girls found Conrad by the sea shore, and hided them before soldiers which were trying to arrest these pirates come up. Unfortunately, those girls fell into slave trader Akenmite ’s hands.
At the slave market bythe port, Akenmite begins to sell their booties, girls and pirate captives at the auction after the ship sinking. Most captives were bought off by Pasha (viceroy), who was even willing to buy beautiful Medora after possessing Gulnara. At that moment, Shaikh swung off his cloak finally, it was the Chief pirate--- Conrad. Mr. Conrad and his friends save all captives and catched the slave trader Akenmite.
Triumphed pirates celebrated their victory in the cave. Conrad and Medora fell in love with each other, and Medora was determined to accompany with Conrad. Conrad ordered the pirates to escort captive girls back home and presented their booties to them, Birbanto didn’t agree to sent girls back and quarreled with him, because of jealousness and dissatisfaction, Birbanto took the chance instigating pirates to fight with Conrad, but their tries were in vain because of fearing Conrad and his friend Ali’s righteousness and stateliness.
Slave trader Akenmite seized the opportunity to suggest the depressed Birbanto, fumed Conrad with drugs and at the same time tried to kill him, then took Medora to the Pasha’s, rebelled persons’ intrigue succeed. After coming around, Conrad and his friend Ali decided to retrieve Medora.
At Pasha’s viceroy mansion, Medora brought by slave trader and met her girl friend Gulnara. Pasha was on the tiles in the back garden, Conrad, Ali and pirates acted as monks and entered into Pasha’s mansion, and attacked successfully. Conrad found with Birbanto and stabed him to death. Conrad met Medora again with great joy. The pirates and freed slaves staring at the rising sail again, Conrad, Medora, Gulnara and Ali made their sail to the freedom shore together.
