Representing the highest level of contemporary dance education in Taiwan, Foucs Dance Company, offers Shuttling X at the Beijing LDTX Theatre, bringing 7 wonderful works by choreographers from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Australia to the Mainland audience.
Focus Dance Company features 22 brilliant young dancers freshly graduated from the Taipei National University of the Arts. The young dancers' energy will be fully explored in 3 major pieces:
Patrol by Lo Man-fei, the legendary dancer/choreographer from Cloudgate Dance Theatre, Plaza X by Helen Lai, hailed as the poetic queen in Hong Kong dance field, and Epitaph - A Dance Inspired by Rachmaninoff by Zhang Xiao-Xiong, the Focus Dance Company's Artistic Director who had been educated both in Mainland China and Australia.
There are also 4 beautiful works created by dancers from the Company: Psychosomatic by Zhang Qin, Trinity by HUANG PO-KAI, Behind the Cold by HSU CHEN and Above the Dark River by LIN CHI-HSUAN.
Renowned dancer, Choreographer and Dance educator（1955-2006）
Lo held a BA in English Literature from National Taiwan University and a MA in Dance from New York University. As a young talent, Lo began her professional career in 1974 with the Neo-Classic Dance Company in Taiwan, continued her training at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, the Alvin Ailey School of American Dance, and the Jose Limon Dance School in New York. While in New York, she took part in various theatrical works, including the Broadway musical The King and I, starring Yul Bryner.
Lo had also devoted to dance education. In 1985, she began teaching at the Dance Department at the National Taipei University of the Arts, Taiwan, was appointed the chairperson of the Dance Department in 1992, and designated as the director of Graduate School of Dance in 1994. In the same year, she and three other former leading dancers of the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan co-founded Taipei Crossover Dance Company. In 1999, she was appointed as the Artistic Director of Cloud Gate 2.
Lo discovered that she had lung cancer in 2001, but remained passionately committed to her dance performances, choreography and teaching. After a five-year battle with lung cancer, she passed away in peace on March 24, 2006, at the age of 51.

Born in Cambodia and moved to China in the early teens; earned the Bachelor of Arts degree from the History Department of Jinan University before emigrating to Australia in 1983; studied modern dance at the Centre for Performing Arts (Adelaide) and started the carrier as a professional dancer.
Moved to Taipei in 1996 and took up the position as the Associate Professor of the Dance College of the National Taipei University for the Arts (former NIA) and the teacher of modern dance for the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre.
His works have been premiered by companies such as Cloud Gate Dance Theater, Hong Kong City Contemporary Dance Company, Guangdong Modern Dance Company, Beijing Modern Dance Company and Taipei Crossover Dance Company, and have also featured in the Adelaide Festival of Arts, the Singapore Festival and the Come Out Festival.
Past Awards include the Best Male Dancer of the Year in La Creme de La Creme categories of the Advertiser’s Arts Awards for 1989; the Best Choreography of the Year in the Advertiser’s Oscarts award for 1996 (Forgotten God); and the Best Production of the Year (Excavation, choreographer 1996).
Helen Lai has contributed to the Hong Kong dance scene for more than thirty years.In 1977 and 1978 she presented two productions of her dance works at the City Hall.
She joined the City Contemporary Dance Company in 1979, working as Artistic Director from 1985 to 1989 and as Resident Choreographer from 1991 to 2011.She also choreographs for other local dance companies, as well as for theatre and movie productions. She has worked for overseas dance companies such as The Cloud Gate Dance Theatre and Crossover Dance Company in Taipei, and the contempodanza and Ballet Estudio in Mexico City.
Focus Dance company was presented for Level 7 from 2004 in Taipei National University of art.There are three years for degree of high school,four years for college one as Advanced Education.From Beginning until now There has been 10th year,and this year is for No.11th. This company is based on young pre-perfessional dancers chasing for perfessional.All of administration is handled by ourselves.It’s been many years in school for experience for performances and lots of different type of classes.We will present the best on the basis of things for audience.
