2011 is the centennial year of the decease of the Austrian composer Gustav Mahler (1860-1911). Mahler is regarded as the founder of contemporary symphonies. In this concert, we have selected the most famous and representative adagio movements from Mahler’s symphonies to reflect the composer’s concept of creation. Shanghai Conservatory of Music Orchestra specially invited LIN Daye, young conductor residing in Europe to be chef d’orchestre of this concert, which will be soul-stirring to the audience at Shanghai International Arts Festival.
The Orchestra of Shanghai Conservatory of Music has been invited to perform in Young.Euro.Classic Music Festival four years in a row, it is appraised by European press as “One of the best youth orchestras in China”. The orchestra will be composed of more that 110 musicians of both faculty members and students for this exclusive performance. The repertoire includes: Symphonie No. 1: mov.3, Symphony No. 4: mov. 3, Symphony No. 5: mov. 4, Symphony No. 6: mov. 3 and Symphony No.3 : mov. 6. The young talents from Shanghai Conservatory of Music will present to the audience with a brand new and passionate interpretation on Mahler’s classical works, and will start a grand chapter in the year of Mahler.
